Premier Diamond Products was founded in 1990 by Terry Webb, who remained Managing Director until 2021. Terry’s sons Steve and Stuart joined him on the Board several years ago, and PDP continues to be a mostly family-run business.
In early 2021, with the business entering a new phase of growth following a recent move to new premises, Terry decided it was time to stand down as MD, but remained on the Board as Chairman.
Steve Webb, formerly Director responsible for Sales, Marketing and Operations, took over as Managing Director.
At the same time, in the company’s first non-Webb family board-level appointment, we were delighted to welcome Nigel George to the Board as Sales Director. Nigel joined the company as National Sales Manager in 2014, and his new position recognised his commitment and success in his former post, as well as the need for a dedicated sales focus to support our future plans. Nigel’s responsibilities include overseeing key customer accounts as well as influencing our growing product ranges.
Stuart Webb, who originally trained in manufacturing techniques, remained responsible for R&D, technical and product development as Products Director.
Terry Webb began as a tradesman, and when he decided to open his own company, his aim was to provide the best quality products to do the job – and to work with what he knew well. It is this lesson that remains built-in to Premier Diamond Products – and it is why we still insist that all our staff know our product range inside out, so they can advise you with real knowledge of what you need.
Terry’s original ethos of ‘selling what you know’ remains very much at the core of our product range. Every member of staff, from sales team, to warehouse to office, knows that choosing the right drill, blade or grinder depends on the material you are cutting, and on your budget priorities. For larger jobs or constant use, a higher priced blade will be less expensive in the long-run, because it will deliver the lowest cost per cut. But cheaper blades can be cost-effective for smaller jobs, or occasional use.
As we have grown, so has our expertise and product range, as has the list of independent retailers, buying groups and multi-branch dealers and distributors who make up our customer base.
Several years ago, to support the demands of national distribution, we expanded our manufacturing base. This now includes four manufacturing partners in China, an office in Shanghai, two in Germany and one each in Italy and Holland, along with our dedicated UK factory which allows us to produce and deliver specialist diamond cores to order.
All our diamond products are manufactured in accordance with safety regulation EN13236, and our abrasive products with EN12413. We have been certified ISO9001:2000 since 1998 and ISO14001:2015 since 2021.
An increasing number of our manufacturing partners are members of OSA, the Organisation for the Safety of Abrasives, offering the additional quality assurance of a highly regulated industry body concerned with both quality and consistency of manufacturing.
